As you may have seen, 2018 will mark 100 years since women were given the vote; in February 1918 the Representation of the People Act 1918 was passed, which gave some women over the age of 30 the right to vote for the first time. To celebrate this milestone, a number of events, commemorations, and resources have been, or will be, appearing throughout 2018.
Slurpy Studios are proud to announce that our 2014 film ‘Who is Emmeline Pankhurst?’ has been selected for two programmes at this years’ Tricky Women festival; ‘100 Years of Women’s Suffrage, democracy and participation’ and ‘Work / Work Affairs’, which takes place between 7th and 11th March 2018, in Vienna, Austria.
Tricky Women takes place every year in March around the date of the International Women’s Day. The festival focuses on animated films made by women (Who is Emmeline Pankhurst? is directed by Katie Steed) and therefore fills a unique position within the international festival landscape. Besides the competition, the festival shows themed programs and retrospectives to present an exciting overview of the animated cinematic art of female artists from around the world and Austrian filmmakers as well
Who is Emmeline Pankhurst? is part of the British Council’s LearnEnglish Kids app, which includes nine other animated stories about British historical figures, myths and legends, which we produced. Unfortunately, we can’t embed the film here, but visit the British Council’s Emmerline Pankhurst page to view it.
We look forward to being part of the 2018 Tricky Women festival and seeing all of the other exciting films celebrating 100 years of Women’s Suffrage!
