Studying animation in the UK has become a lot more accessible over the past 20 years. Back in 2000, there were only a handful of universities or colleges offering the chance to study animation. Prior to setting up the studio, both of Slurpy’s founders (Aaron Wood and Katie Steed) studied animation at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, which has since been re-named the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) Farnham. It was the first animation course to be established in the UK – set up by the legendary Bob Godfrey in 1972, and has gone on to produce four Academy Award winners.

Since then, animation courses have exploded in the UK – there are now over 50 universities or colleges offering BA (Hon) courses in animation production of some sort. This doesn’t include the many MA courses that are being established  year on year; plus the various short courses which deal with specific parts of animation (storyboarding, software, model-making, etc.)
