Following on from our successful animated film for the 2015 Day of the Seafarers campaign, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) asked us to create an animation to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the organisation and its achievements.
The IMO 70 animation shows how IMO has developed international regulations covering almost every aspect of shipping, and the film traces their ‘voyage’ from the 1948 United Nations conference in Geneva, through to the present day. It highlights key developments such as:
- new rules for tanker safety following the infamous Torrey Canyon incident in 1967
- the satellite-based Global Maritime Distress and Safety System
- the designation of several vital environmentally sensitive areas around the world which today receive special protection from shipping
As a result of the IMO’s work, modern shipping conforms to the highest practicable standards and is the safest, cleanest and most efficient way to move goods around the world.
Throughout 2018 the IMO will be hosting a series of commemorative events with the theme “Better Shipping for a Better Future” – we are pleased that this animation has kick-started the celebrations and captures how IMO has been pursuing that goal since its inception!
